An interview with George Meegan / Geographical
One summer’s day I cycled deep into Kent and interviewed this wonderful man George Meegan who 43 years ago set out and completed the world’s longest walk from Ushuaia, Argentina to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. There was a note on the door “Welcome to Rainham Matt! I lost the front door key some years ago. Come round the back.”
We sat in his garden, drank tea and traded stories from the Darién Gap. Then got down to the business of this interview you can read for Geographical (link opens on a new page.)
George’s book The Longest Walk: an odyssey of the human spirit is beautiful. It’s a story of obsession, love, coming of age and poetic adventure. Enjoy.
