Trail Survival Feature with Nimbus Outdoors / Men’s Running

Fresh from shooting the Nimbus Outdoors Pucon Trail race 50K on the flanks of Volcan Villarica in the Region de los Rios sector of Chile, I put this feature story together for Men’s Running with a cowabunga shot of a runner braving the lava slopes.

The feature promises a whittling down of the skills necessary for aspirant trail runners, to be able to access the wildest trails around. If you finish reading and are feeling psyched, Nimbus Outdoors’ next next gnarly offering is coming at you this June 30th.

Volcano Tobogganing / Outdoor Fitness

I headed out into the Pacific Ocean to Chile’s remote territory of Easter Island for the February Tapati festival.

On the summit of a 45 degree volcano, the islanders hold their annual Haka Pei ceremony. Mounting a whittled banana-trunk-rocket, and dressed in nothing but loincloths for protection, competitors are pushed over the edge to attempt to ride the furthest down the lower slopes. Feature story and photos below from the recent issue of Outdoor Fitness magazine.
