This April I set out with a black carbon air pollution monitor (and a rather lovely florid face mask) on a special cycle journey along the Northern Line.

The results showed that cycling exposes you to less air pollution than taking the Underground. The project was inspired by King’s College London’s findings – showing similarly surprising results when comparing different transport use and respective exposure to air pollution.

This was a passion project filmed and directed by my very talented friend, and award winning film maker, Jimmy Hyland.

Many thanks to Benjamin Barratt and the KCL Environmental Research Group for use of equipment and subsequent data analysis.
